The Alliance for the Peace of Jerusalem is an organization made up of key faith leaders, scholars, authors, and pastors who are dedicated to facilitating a better public understanding about Israel’s role in the biblical narrative––past, present, and future––while also affirming God’s concern for Palestinians and all people of the Middle East.
We have signed the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission’s (ERLC) “Evangelical Statement in Support of Israel” in response to Hamas’ recent heinous terror attacks against the Jewish people in Israel. We stand with the ERLC in unequivocally condemning Hamas and its terrorism of innocent Israeli citizens, fully supporting Israel’s right to defend itself, affirming the dignity of both Israelis and Palestinians, calling on American policymakers to defend Israel and confront terrorism, and exhorting believers everywhere to pray for peace in the Middle East.
We also encourage Christians to consider their theology concerning Israel. We believe that flawed theology regarding the Jewish people is not without consequence. The chronic pattern of theologians removing ethnic Israel from God’s plan has led to virulent anti-Semitism and has brought great harm to the Jewish people—both throughout history and today. We encourage believers to look to Scripture to see what God says about his enduring love and plan for Israel and the Jewish people.
We encourage believers to pray for the end of Hamas’ terroristic reign, for the protection of innocent lives––Israeli and Palestinian alike, and for both Israelis and Palestinians to come to know Jesus, the Prince of Peace. We look forward to that future day when national Israel turns to her Messiah and when Jesus returns to Jerusalem to bring peace to the Middle East and to the world (Zechariah 14:4; Zechariah 12:9–10). But until that day, we must continue to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem” (Psalm 122:6).
